Words are essential to all human life; they are something we use every single day. Words can be good or bad depending on how, when and what context we use them in. A good experience with words has been winning a huge tournament in volleyball communication was key to success we couldn’t have won if it wasn’t for my coach. Everything he told us was important in game situation on and off the court whether it was a correction or something we need to acknowledge in pressure situations. They were also important to our success. Without words we would not have been able to conduct practices effectively and efficiently.

One way words have affected me in a bad way would be when I was bullied in middle school. Boys would always call me bad names and make fun of me for made up situations. This has affected me very much so in my life today with how I carry out my everyday routine. I make sure every little thing I do is cautious with everything I say and do. The way these words have affected me are substantial and will always affect me for the rest of my life. Words tend to get miss used by judging you should never judge or say anything about someone before getting to know them. Words can get twisted and misspoken leading to rumors for example when I quit the volleyball team because of personal reasons everyone went around the school saying that I didn’t make the team. Hearing negative words from my coach has affected me majorly I have always been a member of a sporting team whether it was a school team or a select team and my last year ever of playing volleyball the game I had a passion for the game was taken away by him correcting us in every way possible. For example this has happened to me at a huge tournament in Dallas, TX where I was trying to qualify for Junior Olympics that summer we were in bracket play and we were playing one of the hardest teams and we were down by 3 points my coach called a timeout and started screaming at us saying we could do better than we were and I was team caption so this was my time to pull the team together and regroup in a pressure situation when we were all down because we were giving our best effort but it wasn’t good enough for him games are not all about winning competing to your best is all that you need to do and those words I heard in the huddle really changed my heart on the way I felt about loving the game. Watch what you say because there is meaning behind every word.

  2. Maddie, i had no idea any of that happened to you in middle school nor high school, I'm sorry to hear that. But you got through it which makes me happy! i agree with you on "watch what you say because there is meaning behind every word" people are to comfortable with saying hurtful things which isn't ok! but we can't help what people do.

  8. I agree with you, word can harm those around you just how we can be harm as well. Don't feel so bad for what happen to you, take it in and let it make you the strong young lady you are now. It looks like it helped you although it was a hard stage getting over . I understand you completely .
